You've arrived at the killing fields.
before you are blasted into oblivion, please take a few lessons from the aboundant information this page links to. prepare yourself well, for there will be no crying allowed once the hunt is on.
know what lag and loss are.
Myrkul's FAQ is a must read! do not attempt to play without first reading this document. This will keep you from embarassing yourself yelling 'cheater' or the ever popular whine 'no way, why?' Kali is my mode of choice for playing on the internet. There are others but kali is the cheapest largest and has the best compitition out there.
By far the best place for tactics is Weenie!
D2.com is a must stop on the road to success!
Descent Professional's Resource is next.
derek will let ya in on some secrets.
another tactic site originates in berlin.
levels can be obtained at koolbear's or pooterman's
But the best are at Leveler's Lair!
I am a ranger. I am a member of the blue lightning squad. in all of my life, i have not met better people than the descent rangers. these are the most organized and down right nice people I have met. most are better than me as my stats will show. but none have more fun than me
Use the $ chat command! you would be amazed at how fast you can stir up emotions, and responses with a customized message! For those of you who never read your direction book, (hey,I have to read somthing on the toilet!) the $ used in a chat text will be replaced with each reciepient's name. (ie, "$ ,your ugly" would appear in my screen as "buef, your ugly"). 99% of the time such a message will generate a response from at least 1 person. sometimes everyone will stop flying to type you a customized message back. giving you valuble time to either energize, reload, ambush or whatever. My macros are set with these and they are quite fun. Try it and see.
Handicap: To handicap yourself type Handicap:# ,# should be between 10-100. A msg will appear to all that you have handicapped yourself.

-noloadpats :Dont load VR Device support
-nodoscheck :Doesn't check DOS before launching
You can trace your packets and see how many "hops" you are away from any IP Address in W95. Open a Dos-Prompt window and type tracert ***** (***** = IP Address). You will get a detailed desription on your path to that particular IP Address. Ofcourse the lower amount of "Hops" the better.
Once you know the theories behind chording, and are wanting to practice, but not sure if your picking up the extra speed (especially with triple chord). Here is what ya do. Set your cruise on to a slow setting like 15%, now when you pick up that extra speed it will be a significant change and you will know you are doing things right. Once you know your doing it right, just practice till its second nature. And spend some time thinking about your keyboard set up, is there a way to make the combinations with or with out a stick more easy.
Make a new pilot normaly and name it "Cadet", configure the keys and stick to your liking, and even the Macros if you wish. After you are done, Open explorer and move this new pilot (which will be Cadet.plr in the D2 dir) to the missions or demo folder. Whenever you need a newpilot, just copy (make sure to copy and not move, as youll want to use this file for copying again) this "Cadet" pilot over into main D2 Directory and rename him to whatever you wish. He will then show up in your pilot list with the new name and all configurations already done for you.
There is always the debaate about shakers vs dogfighting. some people are very passionate and outspoken in regards to thier taste. I tend to see it like auto-racing, sure highly technical and consistincey on an oval is a challenge, but so is a demolation derby. One is not better than the other. if you do not like one or the other of styles, don't play it. and for pete's sake don't try to force your opinon on everyone else. just because some people don't like it, it shouldn't be frowned upon. both types have thier good points and bad, and lessons learned in either, can be carried over to the other.
