Desert Combat
Desert Combat was a MOD of BF:1942 and completely free. It became more popular than the oriiginal game. This made EA/DICE take notice and hire Trauma studios, the makers of the mod to work on Battlefield 2. The MOD was for modern day warfare instead of WWII weapons. This made the game much faster and added in weapons you see on the news. Just like it's parent game, you were free to roam the vast countryside in any way you could. You could fly a modern jet fighter, get in a shiny new M1A1 Tank, captain a sub, or just grab a sniper rifle and find that perfect spot overlooking the enemy. It offered almost unlimited gameplay options and was a blast to play with teams that were actually co-ordinateing thier offenses and defenses. The best way to play this game was in Capture the flag mode, also known as CTF. Not haveing CTF in Battlefield Vietnam was a big disappointment for a lot of people. We can only hope they do not make the same mistake with Battlefield 2.
The Unholy Playground is THE priemere place to play Desert Combat CTF. Yoda, the server owner, has modified most of the maps for gameplay balance and also hosts custom maps available on the Unholy Maps Page. The site has statistics and a lively community which visit the forum daily. Buef was a member of the group of players branded elite on the server. This group was eK_ and are a great bunch of guys. Buef is also an Admin on Unholy's Desert Combat Server as well as thier Counter Strike: Source server. Buef is also a moderator in the forums, and the only person to hold the #1 spot in the stats with all four scoring icons. Buef also held the #1 spot for the Galactic Conquest server.
The little bird in Desert Combat is the closest thing I have found to a Pyro from Descent. We can only hope the influence from the Trauma team will be felt in Battlefield 2, as the feel of the helicopters in Battlefield Vietnam was terrible.
